Imbibing the parent company’s ‘Bharat Forge DNA’ of research and innovation, Kalyani Powertrain Ltd. was formed, initially as a separate business division but then spun off as a separate company in Apr 2021, with the objective of providing solutions for the ‘Electrification’ of vehicles.
Today, we have a formalized E-Mobility strategy keeping in mind the needs of both domestic and international customers.The E-Mobility portfolio includes a whole span of solutions for the electrification of Commercial Vehicles, ranging from providing selected sub-systems to complete electric powertrain kits.

Mr. Baba Neelkanth Kalyani is the Chairman & Managing Director of Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), a Pune based Indian multinational, technology-driven global leader in metal forming and part of Kalyani Group - a USD 3 billion conglomerate with 10,000+ global work force. It has a trans-continental presence across 10 manufacturing locations, serving several sectors including automotive, oil and gas, power, locomotive & marine, aerospace, construction & mining, etc.
A Mechanical Engineer from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science at Pilani, Rajasthan and an M.S. in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, Baba Kalyani joined Bharat Forge in 1972 when the company's annual turnover was about US $ 1.3 million.
Under his impeccable leadership and vision has transformed BFL to a global diversified company and is a preferred technology and engineering driven Global Partner for leading OEMs across the world in various sectors.
Mr. Kalyani serves on the Boards of many prestigious companies and represents industry on several Industry, Trade and Educational institutions in India and abroad. Acknowledging his contribution to promote India’s trade globally, the Prime Minister of India nominated Baba Kalyani as the Co-Chairman of the India-Japan Business Leaders’ Forum in the year 2013 and as the Co-Chairman of India-Sweden Business Leaders’ Roundtable in the year 2016. Mr. Kalyani is also an active member of the Indo-French CEO’s Forum, Indo-Russia CEO’s Forum, Indo-UK CEO’s Forum among others.
His significant contributions to industry and the community have been recognized through various prestigious awards that he has received. Among the many awards and recognitions conferred upon him, the most notable one is the Padma Bhushan – the highest civilian award in India. Also, Mr. Kalyani is a core member of the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council.

Amit Kalyani, Born on 26th July 1975, is an Indian technocrat and a business leader from the Kalyani group, a 3 billion dollars conglomerate with 10,000 plus global workforce and a marquee customer base. Amit earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. He completed Owner/President Management program from Harvard Business School, Massachusetts, U.S.A. and is an active member of the Young President’s Organization.
Joining Kalyani Steels Ltd., an engineering steel manufacturer, in 1997, Amit oversaw the technology transfer from Carpenter Technology Corporation, USA to the then new joint venture Kalyani Carpenter Special Steels Ltd. (Saarloha Advanced Materials Ltd.) for specialty clean engineering steels. As a Director on the Board, Amit continues to pursue the global expansion of Kalyani Steels Ltd.
He joined Bharat Forge Ltd., a $2.5 billion-manufacturing flagship of the Group, in 1999 as the Chief Technology Officer immediately spearheaded the adoption of digitalization and automation in manufacturing. In his young career, Amit has performed a plethora of roles and currently as a Deputy Managing Director at, he drives the strategic planning, Global business outlook, Mergers & Acquisitions, Human resource development and Investor relations. His current focus is to drive the Kalyani Group vision of Technology Leadership with a synergy of in-house activities with universities, technology leaders and Start-ups. Amit has led the group’s foray into new technologies through incubation of outcome oriented activities and skill development around advanced manufacturing, advanced materials, nano-technology, e-mobility, embedded systems etc., establishing Centers for Technology & Innovation (KCTI) in India and abroad. These centers run joint research and development programs with universities and organizations like RWTH Aachen University, Fraunhofer, BITS Pilani, IIT Bombay and MIRA amongst others.
Amit is leading Kalyani Powertrain Ltd.’s strategic shift towards developing sustainable mobility solutions and has driven the M&A activity with innovative start-ups like Tevva Motors of UK, Refu GmbH of Germany and Tork Motorcycles of Pune (India).
He envisions that successful future manufacturing corporations need to be nimble with technology. Thereby, he endorses the concept of an Open Innovation environment both inside and outside the organization.
Mr. Pankaj Sonalkar MD, Kalyani Powertrain Ltd
Mr. Pankaj Sonalkar has over 35+ years of experience. Growing into his illustrious career throughout,
he has managed Businesses, Board and Mission critical projects.
Pankaj is and has always been recognized as a passionate leader, who has inspired and built world class
engaging teams holding together a remarkable imprint of aspiration and values. He has handled many
complex and state of the art technology projects like bringing emission technologies with the use of SCR
& DPF to India in record time.
Among the cornerstone projects in his previous assignments at Mahindra & Mahindra was where he
along with his team developed electric powertrain for Mahindra’s first SUV – XUV 4OO; for this project,
VCU, BMS, cell to pack and complete system integration was done in house.
As a Leader, Pankaj is very hands on & is also a very firm believer of continuous and lifelong learning
philosophy.
He tries to bring in three elements together with passion to build a winning team;

Pankaj is a Post Graduate in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. During his carrier he has
undergone Multiple Management programs from signature Institutes like IIMA & Harvard Business
School.
For him, constant learning and upgradation is and unending Chapter, where he supports and feels that
the online capability building platforms in the current age are the biggest boon. His Mantra is,
“Embarking on tough technology projects to make a worthwhile life.”

Having worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, he has a solid 33 years of industrial work experience to his credit. Before joining the industry, he started his career from the Indian Air Force. His association with the Kalyani group dates back to as early as 2008 where he joined and lead as the CFO for FAW Bharat Forge (Changchun, China) Co. Ltd. He was instrumental in converting the losses into profits, making this Joint Venture a growing company. He then undertook the reins of Kalyani Steels limited and Saarloha where he worked for 7+ years before being elevated to the responsibility of the Group CFO and Company Secretary at Kalyani Technoforge ltd. where he has been with us for the past 4 years.
He is also a member of two professional bodies – the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) ... and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and holds a Commerce Degree from the University of Delhi. He is responsible for accumulating & managing the working capital for Kalyani Powertrain Ltd., KTFL and other group companies. Overseeing mergers & acquisitions, he is one of the key decision-makers over strategic investments. Being a company secretary himself, he is the primary source of advice on the conduct of business spanning everything from legal advice on conflicts of interest, through accounting advice on financial reports and corporate planning.
